On Wednesday, a climber in Red Rock Canyon fell and sustained a back injury, leading to a complex rescue operation. The climber became stranded and immobile among the boulders, prompting a distress call to authorities.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPDSAR) official Instagram, rescue teams from BLM Rangers and the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) responded to the scene. Due to the injury and the difficult boulder field, they were unable to begin the extraction.
The rescue operation then saw the arrival of AIR3, which deployed three SAR officers to assist with the rescue. With assistance from BLM and FD personnel, the patient was secured in a litter and carried through the boulder field to a proper extraction point.
At the extraction point, an airlift operation took place, with the injured climber secured and lifted to the Red Rock Overlook. Afterward, the climber was transferred to a ground ambulance for further medical care.
