The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a forecast including snow for the Sierra and breezy conditions for the valley floor. Snow in the Sierra and rain in the Owens Valley are expected to taper off early this morning, with some showers continuing in the southern Great Basin this afternoon. Despite these weather changes, temperatures are expected to remain above normal.

According to the National Weather Service, the atmospheric river causing the precipitation is weakening and will continue to decrease throughout the day. Light precipitation is spilling over into the Owens Valley, with periods of light rain reported in Bishop and Lone Pine. The forecast predicts a cooling trend, but temperatures will remain higher than usual through Friday. Gusty conditions are also expected to continue, especially downwind of the Spring Mountains, where significant gusts have been recorded.

Thursday and Friday are expected to bring a second round of heavy snow to the Eastern Sierra. Additional snowfall of one to two feet is possible, especially at higher elevations. Precipitation in valley locations east of the Owens Valley will be minimal, with few disruptions expected.

For aviators, the National Weather Service warns of continued 20 to 30 knot gusts in the Harry Reid region through the evening, with winds mainly coming from the southwest. Winds at VGT will stay unpredictable through mid-morning due to being caught under a rotor. Winds will shift in various directions, with most airstrips in the region experiencing breezy to gusty conditions. The National Weather Service encourages spotters to report any significant weather or impacts according to usual procedures.
