Las Vegas residents can expect light winds and warm temperatures to continue into the early part of the week, with no precipitation in sight. According to the latest National Weather Service Las Vegas NV weather forecast, the area is experiencing a period of "low impact weather" with a weak disturbance possibly bringing gusty winds to the Colorado River Valley and Mojave Desert early next week and perhaps again by next Thursday or Friday.
With high pressure prevailing over the region, today's weather is anticipated to be mild with a slight increase in temperature from the previous day. The upcoming disturbance is not carrying moisture, so while it will stir the winds a bit, it will not result in rainfall. "Increases breezy winds will be the main concern as this systems passes through," the NWS stated, noting that while gusts of 40 MPH are possible, particularly through the Barstow, California corridor, wind impacts are expected to be isolated and short-lived.
Looking towards Tuesday, the forecast predicts that while the shortwave system dips southwest, north winds will become more common across the region. However, due to the uncertainty regarding the strength of the wind forecast and potential impacts, the North American Model (NBM) probabilities for impactful wind gusts in the Colorado River Valley are currently between 60%-70%. Beyond this zone, the risk for impactful winds outside of the Colorado River Valley is deemed low-to-minimal, aligned with the minimal pressure gradient and weak lower level jet stream.
The long-term forecast suggests that by Wednesday, a shortwave trough will near the Pacific Northwest and move south into Nevada by Thursday, which might lead to slightly breezier conditions than previously forecasted. "Breezy winds will linger down the Colorado River Valley on Friday," according to the NWS, but thereafter a ridge of high pressure should usher in a warming trend as the weekend approaches.
As for aviation, the Harry Reid Airport can expect predictable wind patterns today, with prevailing mid and high cloud cover not dropping below 10kft. Similar quiet weather is in the cards for other parts of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California. Spotters are, nonetheless, urged to report any significant weather or impacts in line with standard procedures.
