A Macomb County deputy is being recognized for quickly rescuing a family dog during a house fire in Macomb Township. FOX 2 Detroit reported that the incident took place on Monday at 12:39 p.m., when first responders arrived at a residence on Brentwood Street to find smoke coming from the home. The family's dog was outside, tethered, while flames and smoke were coming from a gas dryer in the basement.

Deputy Eric McCombs responded quickly upon hearing that the dog was still outside. He grabbed a leash from his patrol vehicle and, as seen in bodycam footage, ran to secure the dog and placed it safely in the patrol vehicle with the homeowner. In a statement to CBS Detroit, the sheriff's office said, "The outstanding communication by Dispatch and the quick actions of the MCSO Deputies on scene ensured the safety of the two residents of the home and the family dog."

A fire caused significant damage to a house, but Deputy McCombs, along with the Macomb Township Fire Department, rescued the residents and their dog. In footage shared by MLive, the deputy can be seen telling the dog, "Come on buddy." The MCSO said, "The outstanding communication by dispatch and the quick actions of the MCSO Deputies on scene ensured the safety of the two residents of the home and the family dog." The homeowner and pet were unharmed.
