An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on the I-80 freeway in Solano County, according to a statement by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Golden Gate Division. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Robert Christian Small from Manteca, is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and illegal possession of an unregistered firearm.
Last Wednesday at approximately 4:00 p.m., CHP officers were dispatched following a 9-1-1 call from a victim who stated they had been shot at on westbound I-80 near Milk Farm Road. Upon describing the suspect and vehicle, the information was rapidly disseminated to surrounding law enforcement. The suspect, found in Vacaville, was apprehended by detectives from the CHP's Golden Gate Division Special Investigations Unit.
As reported by the CHP Golden Gate Division, a loaded "ghost gun" equipped with a threaded barrel was discovered during Small's arrest. Small was subsequently booked into the Solano County Jail, and critiques against him include assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle, in addition to attempted murder.
Golden Gate Division Chief Don Goodbrand condemned the violence, stressing the importance of public road safety. "Violence on our roadways is unacceptable and puts innocent lives at risk. The CHP is committed to keeping our roads safe, and we will not tolerate reckless or violent behavior," he said, as per CHP Golden Gate Division. Chief Goodbrand's commitment to the safety of California's roadways was underscored, stating, "Your safety is our top priority, and we will continue working tirelessly to protect everyone who travels on our roadways."
