The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has set the stage for a spectacular spring with its 30th annual Fred & Dorothy Fichter Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition, slated to start on March 1 and last through April 30. As reported by WOODTV, this exhibition is notable for being the country's largest temporary tropical butterfly event, boasting more than 60 different species sourced from diverse locations such as Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
In a bid to commemorate the event's milestone year, Meijer Gardens is not just content to keep the display to the confines of their Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory. Trying to encompass a broader range, Steve LaWarre, Senior Vice President at Meijer Gardens, expressed his excitement about the expanded reach of this year's exhibit, "creating opportunities for discovery both inside and out." An interview with FOX 17 News, further emphasizes the engagement factor in this year's display.
Visitors can expect the conservatory to transform into a humid tropical paradise filled with colorful butterflies fluttering about amid vibrant plant life. Apart from witnessing these insects in flight, guests will have the chance to view several other aspects of butterfly life. The gardens intend to introduce approximately 1,000 chrysalids on a weekly basis to facilitate an educational experience on metamorphosis, as mentioned in an article by WZZM 13.
As part of the extended festivities surrounding the Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition, visitors can look forward to special programming. Scheduled are a butterfly ballet performance as well as various lectures and exploration stations dedicated to providing deeper insights into the lifecycle and habitat needs of these insects. The Grand Rapid Ballet Junior Company will perform on February 15-16, adding a cultural twist to the natural display, as revealed by FOX 17 News. In addition, other family-friendly activities have been scheduled throughout the timeframe of the exhibit, including an Earth Day celebration.
For those interested in attending this vibrant and educational showcase, ticket information and event details are posted on the Meijer Gardens website. Attendance to the Butterflies are Blooming exhibition is included with admission to the gardens, ensuring that families and nature enthusiasts can embark on this immersive journey without additional costs.
