Washington, DC's Metropolitan Police Department is looking for suspects involved in a series of burglary offenses in the city. The call for public assistance comes after a business in the Southeast was burglarized last Friday, according to an MPD release. At about 4:41 a.m., a suspect was caught on surveillance video forcibly entering the 700 block of 8th Street, Southeast property, accompanied by a second suspect who stood guard outside the establishment. Both fled after stealing items from within.
A visual of one suspect has been distributed in hopes that someone in the community might recognize them. The footage is available at the Metropolitan Police Department's official website. Moreover, MPD shared information about additional incidents from the same day. A Destruction of Property offense and a second-degree burglary occurred around 3:26 a.m. on the 2600 block of Connecticut Avenue, Northwest, and the latter at approximately 4:18 a.m. on the 3500 block of 12th Street, Northeast.
Despite gaining entry and absconding with goods, the suspects' attempts at another location were unsuccessful. The attempted forced entry at Connecticut Avenue resulted in only damage, as they failed to penetrate the business and ultimately retreated. For the burglary on 12th Street, the scenario played out much like the one in Southeast—forced entry, theft, and a subsequent quick exit.
The MPD has broadcast a plea for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward, offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in connection with these offenses. Persons are urged to contact authorities at (202) 727-9099 or to submit tips via text to 50411, ensuring they take no action themselves that could endanger or compromise the investigation. These incidents have raised concerns about nighttime security in small businesses across these affected areas.
