Drivers in Michigan may have felt a slight easing at the pumps this past week as average gas prices in the state dipped. According to CBS News Detroit, AAA reports a six-cent decrease from the prior week, setting the new average for regular unleaded at $3.03 per gallon. This figure is "14 cents less than this time last month and 1 cent more than this time last year," as confirmed by Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group, who mentioned that "Michigan motorists are seeing lower prices at the pump."
While the statewide average is $3.03, variations persist across Michigan with Metro Detroit having the most expensive gas at $3.14 per gallon, Benton Harbor boasts the least expensive at $2.89. A full 15-gallon tank now costs drivers an average of $45, a significant decline compared to last year's peak prices in July, which were $12 higher, according to WXYZ.
Adding context to these figures, FOX 17 detailed a more significant decrease in West Michigan, where gas prices in cities like Grand Rapids plummeted 10.6 cents, with the most dramatic drop in Muskegon/Norton Shores at 24.4 cents less per gallon than last year. The downward trend extends to counties, with Kent County averaging $2.886 per gallon and Ottawa at $2.838.
