The Montgomery County Public Libraries are set to host MoComCon 2025, a two-day celebration of all things comics, bringing together not just fans of the graphic novel form but local communities at large on March 22 and 23. The annual event, usually held over a single day, will expand to cover an entire weekend, offering a wide variety of activities and providing guests of all ages with a space to engage in the creative process of comics. According to Montgomery County's website, MoComCon will commence at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown.
Saturday's agenda, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., will cater primarily to teens 13 years or older and adults, featuring panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and contests, such as the highly anticipated cosplay contest open to novices and veterans alike. On the following day, starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until 2 p.m., the Germantown Library will host family-friendly festivities, which include a costume parade, interactive displays, and an array of activities designed to immerse families in the art of storytelling and the imaginative world of comics.
"MoComCon is a great example of how Montgomery County Public Libraries create spaces where creativity and community come together," said County Executive Marc Elrich, as per Montgomery County. The extended duration of this year's convention underscores the commitment of the organizers to provide more opportunities for residents to not only delve into the medium of comics but also to experience the sense of fellowship that comes with it.
In addition to the immersive experiences, MoComCon will offer curated graphic novel booklists with suggested reading across various themes and age groups. These booklists are carefully designed to guide attendees toward discovering new and compelling narratives. Montgomery County Public Libraries is committed to ensuring a safe, welcoming environment, and accessibility accommodations will be provided for those who need them.
