A Montgomery County man, Kevin Kelly Murray, age 30, has been sentenced to two decades behind bars after pleading guilty to charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography. According to a statement from the Office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, U.S. District Court Judge R. Barclay Surrick handed down the 20-year sentence, which is to be followed by 15 years of supervised release.

Murray was indicted in June 2022 on one count of using an interstate commerce facility to entice a minor to partake in sexually explicit conduct, one count of manufacture and attempted manufacture of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography he entered guilty pleas to all the charges in October of the previous year. The case began when an online chat service, Omegle, detected and reported the sharing of videos depicting the sexual exploitation of minors, which led to authorities tracing the activity back to Murray's internet account.

Law enforcement executed a search at Murray's residence on October 22, 2020, uncovering copious amounts of illicit material, with Murray admitting to the possession of child pornography and to utilizing Omegle for the sharing and downloading of such content, including persuading underage girls into performing sexual acts on themselves for recording. A forensic examination of his devices revealed at least 361 images and 93 videos of child pornography, with evidence of at least three minor victims, including one appearing to be between eight and ten years old.

"Murray preyed on children, grooming them for his own deviant purposes," stated U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero in the report, describing the tactics of normalization of sexual behavior wielded by Murray to manipulate young girls into performing explicit acts on camera and then saving the material for his consumption, the case executed under Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative aiming to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Abington Township Police Department, it was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Priya T.
