A fatal collision in Fort Collins has claimed the life of a motorcyclist, following a multi-vehicle crash on South Shields Street. At approximately 5:31 pm yesterday, Fort Collins Police responded to the accident in the 6000 block, involving several vehicles.

The investigation has so far shown that a northbound 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee was hit from behind by a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which then veered into southbound traffic and was struck by a 2005 Toyota Prius, the rider ejected and subsequently hit by a 2012 Subaru Outback, with all involved parties remaining on scene and cooperating with police officials; alcohol and speed are being considered as potential contributing factors, as the inquiry continues.

In response to the incident, Sergeant David Lindsay of the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team remarked, “Our CRASH Team is working diligently to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and provide answers to those affected. Any loss of life is devasting, and our thoughts are with those who were involved tonight,”  as per the City of Fort Collins. The CRASH team, which specializes in Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling, has since taken over the investigation to uncover the dynamics of the tragedy.

Following the crash, South Shields Street experienced an extended closure from Trilby Road to Scenic Drive for about 7 hours, impacting late-night traffic as authorities processed the complex scene, collecting evidence to form a clear picture and establish the causality within this disturbing sequence of events.
