The Metropolitan Police Department's (MPD) Force Investigation Team is conducting a probe into an officer-involved shooting in Northwest's Quebec Place, where a police officer fired their weapon during a recent encounter. The officers, initially stopping a vehicle along the 3600 block of Georgia Avenue at 3:27 pm on Tuesday, witnessed a duo shooting weapons nearby, prompting one officer to discharge their firearm toward the suspects, as reported by the MPDC.
The suspects managed to evade capture and were last spotted escaping through an alley between Princeton Place and Quebec Place. Despite the chaos, no injuries were reported, and nobody was hit by the gunfire. The suspects' whereabouts are now a puzzle for local law enforcement. Following the incident, the involved officers were placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure while MPD conducts its critical examination of the situation, aligning with departmental policy.
The Internal Affairs Bureau’s Force Investigations Team is reviewing all officer-related shootings in the District of Columbia, while the U.S. Attorney’s Office conducts an independent investigation to ensure accountability and transparency. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Division is focused on the original crime involving the three suspects and the gunfire that triggered these events.
The MPD is asking the public for assistance, encouraging anyone with information to contact the police at 202-727-9099.
