Almost a year to the day since Marie Nemorin's lifeless body was discovered in a Harlem apartment, the New York City Police Department has revealed new information regarding her death. Nemorin, 74, was found dead on February 23, 2024, but the circumstances surrounding her passing remained enigmatic until now. Yesterday, authorities from the Medical Examiner's office have ruled the death a homicide.
According to a statement obtained by NY Daily News, police responded to a call from two members of Nemorin's church after they found her body in her bathroom. When a neighbor, Larissa Liburd, initially entered the apartment on that tragic day, she was confronted by a disheartening scene. "When I went in there were roaches everywhere. It was a terrible sight, and it scared me away," Liburd said. Patch reports that the 911 call was made at approximately 1:10 p.m., and despite efforts by emergency personnel, Nemorin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further adding to the mystery was the initial uncertainty regarding the cause of Nemorin's death. An autopsy was conducted, but conclusive results eluded the medical examiner until additional testing was completed.
Both neighbors and acquaintances remembered Nemorin fondly, struck by the abrupt and violent nature of her death. Liburd recounted to NY Daily News, "She was a wonderful lady; she was like a grandmother to me." Moreover, Liburd noted the worrisome habit Nemorin had of leaving her door ajar, often without possession of the keys. Such details may provide crucial context as the NYPD continues their probe into the events that led to Nemorin's untimely demise.
