For Ohio's youth, the proposed budget ensures vision care by creating the OhioSEE program, which targets kindergarteners through third graders, is projected to aid 33,000 children with comprehensive eye exams and glasses if needed, and continues to bolster literacy through coaching and mandates increased literacy support in schools with low proficient reader rates.
Addressing Ohio's future workforce, scholarships and work-learning opportunities for high students are ramped up with the introduction of the Governor's Merit Scholarship to retain local talent and a novel initiative tying higher education funding to graduate employment outcomes as Ohio strives to pioneer educational initiatives—the top 5% of each high school graduating class becomes eligible for a $5,000 scholarship, with a significant 76% uptake among the 2024 class, exemplifying the program's allure.
