An Orange County Corrections officer, Joshua Sutton, has been placed under arrest and is facing multiple charges following a domestic dispute that allegedly turned violent yesterday morning. According to an arrest affidavit from the Apopka Police Department, Sutton is accused of choking and striking a woman during an argument at a residence in Apopka, as first reported by ClickOrlando. Following the altercation, where screaming could be heard in the background of a 911 call, the woman was discovered outside the home with visible injuries and two distressed children in her company.

The victim told authorities that the confrontation escalated when Sutton emerged from the bedroom and began to assault her. Responding officers noted red marks on her nose and near her mouth, which were mentioned in the ClickOrlando article. The same article goes on to detail that Sutton had reportedly become incensed after the victim requested he purchase cigarettes for her. The victim has alleged that Sutton's violent behavior has been ongoing since 2017. During this latest incident, Sutton is accused of delivering multiple punches and a threat implying that victims "needed to die in a fiery car accident."

Subsequently, Sutton allegedly entered a bedroom where his handguns were stored, prompting the woman to flee the scene with her children. As per the WESH report, local law enforcement took caution due to the possibility that Sutton was armed, closing off roads near the residence and eventually apprehending him around 9:40 a.m. Two guns were retrieved from the property and are now part of the evidence collected by the police.

In light of his arrest, the Orange County Corrections has taken measures against Sutton, who was previously recognized for his training accomplishments. A statement on a November 2024 Facebook post from the official Orange County, Florida Government page, which WESH cited, described Sutton as an award recipient for his performance at the Basic Corrections Officer Academy. Despite this prior commendation, Sutton has been placed on "relief of duty" without pay, pending further investigation and review of the most recent incident. Sutton remains in the Orange County Jail without bond as the case progresses.
