A late-night argument in a moving vehicle ended in tragedy on Detroit's I-94 when a passenger, who had reportedly been drinking, allegedly grabbed the steering wheel, resulting in a fatal crash. The incident, taking place near Chene Street at around 10:25 p.m. last night, involved a 27-year-old Detroit man who was driving his Nissan Sentra and his 28-year-old passenger, also from Detroit, who later died at the hospital due to the injuries sustained in the crash.
Along with the deceased passenger, there were two young children in the car, ages one and two, both of whom were properly restrained and subsequently received medical treatment for unknown injuries, according to a report by CBS News Detroit.
Michigan State Police informed Audacy that the driver was not believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, though neither adult in the car was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The state police investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash is ongoing. MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw underlined the importance of seatbelt use: "We want to remind drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts anytime they get in the vehicle."
