To support Pennsylvania residents ahead of the federal REAL ID enforcement deadline, PennDOT will open its doors at the Huntingdon Valley Driver License Center for a special "REAL ID Day" event. Scheduled for February 10 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the center, located at 2022 County Line Road, aims to provide an additional opportunity for individuals to obtain the necessary identification. "We're committed to ensuring our customers are ready for the REAL ID enforcement deadline of May 7, 2025," said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services Kara Templeton, as reported by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvanians seeking to fly domestically, access military bases, or enter certain federal facilities after May 7, will require a REAL ID-compliant license or another form of federally acceptable identification, such as a valid passport or military ID, as detailed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. While opting for a REAL ID remains a choice, more than 2.5 million state residents have participated in the program. The PennDOT website features an online wizard for those uncertain if a REAL ID fits their needs.
To comply with federal regulations, applicants need to provide various documents to verify their identity, including proof of Social Security Number and two proofs of residency. Those with changes in their legal name must also show the appropriate certified documents. Pricing for the first REAL ID includes a one-time fee of $30, in addition to the normal renewal fee. For most drivers, this renewal fee currently stands at $39.50. The new REAL ID will also extend the expiration date to include any remaining time on the existing non-REAL ID product, plus an additional four years unless the individual is over 65 years old and holds a two-year license.
After submission of the proper documentation and payment, applicants can receive their REAL ID by mail within 15 days, if the application was made at a Driver License Center, or immediately at one of PennDOT’s 15 REAL ID Centers. Customers who received their Pennsylvania driver's license, learner's permit, or photo ID card after September 1, 2003, may have their documents already on file and can apply for a REAL ID pre-verification or order their REAL ID-compliant product online. The complete list of centers and services is available on the Penndot Driver and Vehicle Services website, as noted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
