Parents looking for a fun and enriching experience for their kids during spring break have a promising option thanks to a city initiative. Registration is now open for the Spring Break Camp at Extended Day/Extended Year (ED/EY) pilot schools, which will run from April 14-17. The camp, aimed to serve 2,000 students, is set to offer full day care, enriching activities, and exciting trips, all at no cost to families. It's designed to engage and inspire the young minds of Philadelphia during the school hiatus.
The initiative is part of Mayor Parker's vision to augment educational opportunities within the City of Philadelphia, a joint funding effort with the School District of Philadelphia, as stated in a recent announcement. Participation is up for grabs on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority going to students who attend the 22 participating schools. Space is limited, thus, parents are encouraged to register their kids as soon as possible before the April 1st cutoff.
Families with an interest in enrolling their children can click the "APPLY HERE" link next to their school's name or call the listed provider for more information. For those whose children don't attend the host schools, enrollment for siblings and other students will be considered, if space allows. This inclusive approach aims to extend the benefit of the camp to a broader segment of the community, encompassing a variety of households.
Each participating school has a designated provider, such as the Greater Philadelphia YMCA, Methodist Services, or Sunrise of Philadelphia, ensuring that attendees are under professional and caring supervision. From outdoor adventures at Juniata Park Academy to tennis lessons at the Overbrook Educational Center, the range of activities is curated to cater to diverse interests and foster personal growth in a safe and nurturing environment. Parents can find the details and contact information for each provider on the official Philadelphia government's website.
