San Francisco may not have a team in the Super Bowl this year, but that doesn't mean local companies aren't participating in the festivities. With the Philadelphia Eagles set to compete in the big game, it seems they have an ally in Wawa, the beloved Philadelphia-based convenience store chain. They have rolled out a promotion that promises to give Eagles fans one more reason to rally on Super Bowl Sunday: free coffee. According to an NBC Philadelphia report, more than 500 Wawa locations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware will serve free hot coffee of any size until kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Forgetting its intended purpose, Wawa's Chief Customer Officer Alex Costabile was quoted in the festivities, saying, "At Wawa, we’ve always had a special connection to our Philadelphia sports teams, and we get just as excited as our customers do when one of them is playing for a chance to win a championship." Alex Costabile told PhillyBurbs, adding, "We talk about having Goose Pride here at Wawa, but this week, we’ll be cheering for another bird on Sunday and hope they bring our city another championship! Go Birds!"
Not to be outdone, Starbucks is also offering its brand of Super Bowl celebration. They plan to dispense free coffee the following morning for their "Starbucks Monday" promotion. As reported by FOX29, Starbucks Rewards members can claim a free hot or iced coffee the Monday after the Super Bowl. "A perfect pickup after what Eagles fans hope will be a night of celebration," the report added, readying their customers for a caffeinated start to the new week.
