Amid Pittsburgh's industrial heritage backdrop, Kennywood Amusement Park has unveiled "Kennywood Junction," a themed area designed to celebrate the Steel City's storied past. Launching on April 12, the park will introduce five freshly themed rides featuring a mix of nostalgia and family-friendly adventure, WTAE reported.

New attractions like the Olde Kennywood Railroad and Kenny's Cargo Drop aim to elevate the classic amusement park experience. The latter propels visitors atop a crane before swiftly dropping them in an exhilarating ride. At the same time, the former guides them through Kennywood's historical landscape, adorned with views of local landmarks like the Monongahela River. The Edgar Thomson Works, Pittsburgh's iconic old steel mill, is also featured in the atmospheric journey, according to information provided by WTAE.

Alongside the technological thrills, Kennywood Junction is set to introduce its first Eggcellent Easter Celebration, including a mascot meet-and-greet, scavenger hunts, and thematic food and beverage options. An unlimited brunch buffet is on the menu during the event, which runs from opening day through April 27. "Kennywood and Pittsburgh are synonymous, and our new family-friendly area, Kennywood Junction, pays tribute to just that, our park and its historic love for the Steel City," Kennywood's General Manager Ricky Spicuzza said in a statement detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh.

The park expansion is a boon not only for visitors but also for the local job market. Over 2,000 employment opportunities are available across the Kennywood, Idlewild, and Sandcastle attractions. The positions range from ride operators to lifeguards and food and beverage team members. The details can be found on the park's official website, as shared by CBS News Pittsburgh.
