A fire broke out at a fabrication shop in Portage last Sunday, completely burning the structure. No injuries were reported. Firefighters from the Portage Department of Public Safety responded to the scene on Terry Lane, where access drives and limited entry points made their work difficult. Battalion Chief Lou Playford said, "This fire had likely been burning for an extended period before it was discovered," according to WOODTV.
An excavator was used to open the structure, helping firefighters reach and control the fire more effectively. MLive reported that the equipment was brought in due to challenges with the building's layout. Playford said the response team showed dedication, as this was their second major firefighting effort in less than 12 hours.
A fire at a shop on Terry Lane prompted a response from multiple departments. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though it is not currently considered suspicious. An assessment of structural damage is underway. Battalion Chief Lou Playford stated, "I am incredibly proud of the actions taken by our crews," acknowledging the coordinated efforts that led to the fire being extinguished without injury or loss of life, as stated by WZZM13.
