Raleigh’s youth are getting a new groove on at Green Road Park, where the I.AM.ME Step Class is offering more than the usual dance tips. Every Saturday, from noon to 1:30 p.m., kids and teens aged 5 through 17 have an opportunity to engage in step dance, a percussive dance form that's as much about rhythm and coordination as it is about personal expression and teamwork. The classes, which cost a nominal $5 per session, promise a unique blend of exercise, creativity, and community.
Stepping isn’t just about the physical moves, it’s also a platform for the young participants to build their self-esteem and learn the value of collaboration. According to the official class announcement on the City of Raleigh website, “This is more than just a step team—it's a place where young people can express themselves, build confidence, and discover their strengths.” It's this environment that fosters not only fitness but also personal growth, offering an experience that can shape their perspectives both on, and off, the dance floor.
While step dance itself is characterized by its intricate patterns and vibrant movements, the true essence of I.A.ME. Step Class lies in its inclusivity. The low entry cost ensures that the program is accessible, demolishing economic barriers that often restrict participation in extracurricular activities. Each class aims to nurture talent and determination, regardless of a child's background, allowing diversity to fuel the creative combustion of stepping.
