Rancho Cordova has a certain charm that seems to weave its way into the love stories of its residents. This Valentine's Day, three couples from the area shared their journeys of love that all began in the city. According to a recent feature, these tales span decades, illustrating that love can persist through time and distance, with Rancho Cordova at the heart of their histories.
Daryl and Therese's romance began on the roller rink in 1985, only to be reunited decades later through a twist of fate involving an online search and a retirement article. Daryl, formerly stationed at Mather Air Force Base, and Therese, a long-serving member of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, parted ways when distance and family commitments became insurmountable obstacles. After his wife's passing in 2021, Daryl set out to find Therese, reconnecting over a phone call that made it seem "like they had never been apart," Therese recounted to the City of Rancho Cordova. Their favorite haunts include walks along the American River, and while they now reside in Washington, Rancho Cordova remains a treasure trove of memories for the pair.
Neal and Yen's story paints a picture of high school sweethearts whose love story never strayed far from Rancho Cordova, the city where it began. The couple, meeting in 1993, navigated the ups and downs of a budding relationship amid school dances and sports practices. Neal originally found Yen's loud and talkative nature "quite interesting," while Yen admitted to a City of Rancho Cordova interview that she often declined the rides Neal offered after track practice. Despite an early resistance, Yen eventually warmed up to Neal, leading to a lifetime spent together and raising their two daughters in the same city that brought them together.
Then there's the enduring bond between Bob and Meada, whose love tale dates back to a 1956 blind date. Military assignments initially separated them, but their heartstrings pulled them back to Rancho Cordova after Bob was reassigned to Mather Air Force Base. They made Rancho Cordova their permanent home, enjoying what they described to the City of Rancho Cordova as VERY SENIOR date spots local to the area, like Brookfields for breakfast. Their love story is one that "would take a lengthy novel to tell."
