As Sacramento's leaf season winds down, residents are looking for ways to manage their yard waste effectively. According to a recent article by Sacramento City Express, the city's leaf collection service ended on February 3. With over 10,000 tons of yard debris collected this season, the city's crews finished their claw collections, pushing residents to consider other options for their organic waste.
The City of Sacramento offers its citizens a continent alternative for yard waste disposal. Residents can fill their organic containers with yard waste for regular pickup. Now that February has arrived, the same crews that handled leaf collection will also be tasked with scheduled household junk pickups. The city provides two free junk pickup appointments from February to October for city customers, which can be arranged by contacting City Customer Service via phone, the Sac311 app, or the service's website.
These junk pickup appointments require that yard waste be kept separate from other items. The guidelines are specific: branches must be cut to a maximum of three feet in length and four inches in diameter, while piles should not exceed dimensions of four feet by four feet by nine feet. Residents are reminded to put out their materials no sooner than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup to avoid illegal tagging and to keep the streets safe for city crews and traffic flow.
For disposing of household hazardous waste, such as batteries, paint, and pesticides, the city encourages residents to use the Waste Wizard online sorting tool. "We aim to offer multiple resources for getting rid of junk in our Waste Wizard," Jesa David, spokesperson for the Recycling and Solid Waste Division, told Sacramento City Express. Residents are urged to explore repurposing, recycling, or donating items before simply sending them to landfill.
In addition to handling general refuse, residents have the option to schedule pickups for appliances or electronic waste through separate appointments. Specific placement instructions apply to these items, which are important to ensure they're not mixed with regular household junk. For more details on these services and instructions, Sacramento City Express advises residents to visit the official website for additional information.
