Milwaukee residents may want to keep an eye on the sky and tread cautiously on the roads as the National Weather Service Milwaukee branch has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area. According to the National Weather Service forecast published on February 2, the city faces overcast conditions with a slight chance of drizzle or freezing rain, mainly before 8am today. The temperatures hover in the low 30s with a chill that makes it feel closer to the low 20s.
An update from National Weather Service Milwaukee this morning also indicates a 20 percent chance of precipitation, with rain possibly entering the mix post-5am tonight and patchy fog rolling in after 2am. Monday doesn't provide much reprieve, offering a slight chance of rain merging with snow in the afternoon before tapering off and fog lingering before 9am. With east wind turning north, the high is expected near 42 degrees.
Looking further into the week, the chances for precipitation continue, the National Weather Service warns of potentially hazardous weather incoming Wednesday and Wednesday night. The forecast details a 40 percent chance of snow and freezing rain after noon on Wednesday, escalating to a 60 percent likelihood of snow and freezing rain by the night, with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. The low for Wednesday night circles around a chilly 26 degrees.
As the week progresses, residents should prepare for the cold grip to continue, with northeast winds bringing mostly cloudy conditions and highs barely making it over the freezing mark. While Thursday is expected to offer a break with partly sunny skies, nighttime temperatures will plunge to around 12 degrees. Milwaukee can anticipate partly sunny weather again on Friday, but don't let the sun fool you – snowy conditions may once again be on the horizon for Friday night and Saturday, as per the National Weather Service.
While spotters may not need to activate just yet, it's clear that Milwaukee's weather remains as variable as ever. The National Weather Service recommends residents stay updated on the latest forecasts as the week unfolds, and undoubtedly, local road crews and winter weather veterans will stay busy.
