If you're planning a weekend trip to Tahoe, expect delays on the roads, especially along state Highway 89, due to snowy conditions and heavy traffic. Truckee's California Highway Patrol and county authorities are advising drivers to be patient during their commute, according to a recent advisory from the County of Placer website.

The weather in the Sierra can change quickly, from sunny to snowy. The California Highway Patrol recommends checking road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov, packing tire chains, slowing down for icy roads, keeping a safe distance, staying focused, carrying an emergency kit, and keeping your tank full. Drivers should also avoid passing snowplows unless the operator signals it's safe.

County officials also suggest using regional transit services like Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART) and TART Connect. TART offers direct stops in Olympic Valley and runs from early morning to evening, while TART Connect provides on-demand rides in the Tahoe City and Olympic Valley areas at night.

For those visiting resorts, Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows now require a Reserve 'N Ski parking system on weekends, but mid-week spots are available without a reservation. Northstar California requires reservations on weekends and peak times for parking in the Village View lots, with Castle Peak lots opening once the former fills up.
