Drivers in the Tampa area should brace for hazy travels this morning as the National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory, cautioning that visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less. In a statement obtained by NWS Tampa Bay, the advisory stresses that such low visibility could have significant impacts on the morning commute, suggesting that drivers slow down, use their headlights, and maintain a generous following distance from the vehicles ahead.
The foggy conditions, blanketing parts of southwest and west central Florida are expected to persist until 9 AM EST this morning, creating potentially hazardous driving situations throughout the region, this means places such as Bushnell, Winter Haven, Placid Lakes, and Cape Coral, might be notably difficult to navigate before the sky clears. The NWS' Dense Fog Advisory specifically highlighted areas including Brooksville, Spring Hill, Plant City, Parrish, Anna Maria Island, Clearwater, Westchase, Wildwood, Lakewood Ranch, Hernando Beach, Myakka City, Venice, Port Richey, Dade City, Tampa, Hudson, Englewood, Sun City Center, Apollo Beach, Port Charlotte, The Villages, St. Petersburg, Zephyrhills, Arcadia, Babcock Ranch, Lake Panasoffkee, Lakeland, Largo, Avon Park, Bowling Green, Brandon, Sanibel, North Port, Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Bradenton, Wauchula, Punta Gorda, Sebring, Captiva, Zolfo Springs, Bayport, and Sarasota as affected areas.
Following the dissipation of morning fog, the NWS' Dense Fog Advisory indicates a gradual transition to sunnier skies, with the afternoon expected to be mostly clear. Temperatures will peak at a comfortable high of around 82 degrees. As tranquility returns, calm winds shifting west-southwest at around 5 mph will provide a gentle reprieve from the earlier tumultuous conditions.
As the week progresses, Tampa residents can look forward to a streak of pleasant weather with the forecast predicting patchy fog lifting on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, giving way to partly sunny and mostly sunny skylines, respectively, during the daytime particularly as calm winds are anticipated to become south southeast around 5 mph by each afternoon, settling into mostly clear nights with lows hovering in the low 60s.
