San Jose Boulevard will undergo significant changes starting later tonight as JEA begins replacing a 24-inch water main between Old River Road and Claire Lane, a process expected to span approximately three months. This construction follows an emergency repair to the water main last July, with JEA officials determining that replacement is essential for the water system's reliability and to prevent future disruptions, as first reported by First Coast News.

Traffic on San Jose Boulevard will be affected, primarily during nighttime hours. One lane in each direction will be closed periodically between Interstate 295 and Ricky Road. According to Action News Jax, closures will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. for the northbound lane from Ricky Drive to I-295, and from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for the southbound lane, while, speed limits will be reduced to 35 mph.

The project will also necessitate the closure of median and turn lanes within the work zone for its duration, which JEA assures will minimize impact on the public. "We wanted to minimize impact on commuters and local businesses as much as possible. During the daytime, the turn lanes will be closed throughout the length of the project. So that will be the major impact on commuters, having the turn lanes closed. But we are hoping that keeping the travel lanes open during the daytime will alleviate that backup for commuters," JEA spokesperson Karen McAllister told News4JAX.
