Dayshon Lewis, a 24-year-old fugitive from West Virginia, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Akron early morning, as per the U.S. Marshals Service. Lewis had been evading capture for a suspected bond violation in connection to drug-related charges and was also on the radar of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for firearm violations. With task forces uniting from different states, the arrest marks a cross-jurisdictional effort to bring a purported perpetrator to justice.
According to a press release by the U.S. Marshals Service, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF), along with the Cops United Felony Fugitive Enforcement Division (CUFFED) from West Virginia, pinpointed Lewis to a residence on the 900 block of Jason Ave.. in Akron. Found hiding in a closet in the home, the purported chase ended as Lewis was taken into custody. In the house, authorities also seized two handguns, a considerable sum of cash, and suspected narcotics. Accused alongside Lewis, a woman was charged with obstruction for her role within the residence.
"This fugitive has been on the run for a long time, but the U.S. Marshals Service will always catch up to those on the run. We are thankful to have two more guns and drugs off the streets of our communities," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott emphasized, signaling the relentless pursuits of the law enforcement agencies involved. Citizens are encouraged to come forward with any tips regarding wanted fugitives, with options to remain anonymous and potentially receive reward money.
Reflecting a collaborative law enforcement canvas, the NOVFTF Akron Division's success is a testament to the synergy among federal, state, and local agencies, including the Akron Police Department and several other community entities. The apprehension of Lewis not only addresses the immediate concerns related to his charges but also underscores the broader, sustained fight against both the distribution of illegal substances and the prevalence of unlawful firearms in neighborhoods.
