Recently, it marked a major milestone as two of its officers, Sergeants Steven Person and John Banner, graduated from the esteemed Institute for Law Enforcement Administration's 146th School of Police Supervision. According to a social media post by the White Settlement Police Department, the month-long leadership course, held in Plano, Texas, is regarded among the top schools in the nation for police leadership training.
During the ceremony, which Officer Wesley Gregory led, they presented the Colors, an honored tradition. Joining Officer Gregory were Corporal Brandon Tibbit, Detective Geovanny Ramirez, and a peer from the Saginaw Police Department, Texas, Corporal A. Garcia. With Chief Cook serving as the graduation speaker, having once walked the same path after graduating from the 96th School of Police Supervision in 2009, today's ceremony from the last year marked a major milestone for the WSPD.
In addition to Sergeants Person and Banner, the WSPD has seen all sergeants within the department complete the leadership program since 2022, an achievement which includes Lt. Brad Bukowski and Assistant Chief Roger Yount, culminating in a total of eight WSPD graduates.
Moving forward, Chief Cook plans to extend the reach of this leadership school to all WSPD corporals. The department boasts two graduates from the ILEA's elite Civilian Leadership Series, and the Pecan Grove Convention Center will host this class in June when the department hopes to replicate the significant training effort.
