The National Weather Service has issued a stark bulletin for the residents of Columbus, Cincinnati, and other areas in the respective radius: brace yourselves for high winds and a significant temperature drop this weekend. According to the National Weather Service forecast, strong low pressure moving across the Great Lakes will precipitate a notable shift in the weather, with warmer air and windy conditions preceding the drop. Today, gusts could reach up to 45 mph in the Tri-State area, and a Wind Advisory has been expanded to cover much of the region.

Residents should anticipate winds to persist into the evening and through Saturday as the cold front makes its southbound journey, tempering its fury by slightly reducing wind gusts to the 25 to 35 mph range, then settling to 20 to 25 mph overnight. The approaching front appears to have little moisture to offer, instead ushering in clouds and a slim chance of showers in central Ohio. It’s this change that's bringing in much colder air behind it, with a few snow showers or flurries expected on Saturday, particularly impacting the more northerly parts of the forewarned areas.

As the weekend progresses, temperatures on Saturday will particularly feel the brunt of the cold air advection (CAA), states the National Weather Service report. Highs only range from the upper 20s in the north to the upper 30s in the south, which, for residents, is a harsh welcome to March. Subsequent to that, high pressure settles in Saturday night into Sunday, offering clearer skies, but little relief from the chill with lows plunging into the frosty 15 to 20-degree range by Sunday morning.

Looking ahead, after a frigid Sunday, there's a whisper of relief as next week begins, with warmer air currents gradually elevating temperatures back to the mid-40s on Monday, though there's a chance of precipitation close to the Tri-State. Increasing chances of precipitation continue into midweek as an even more substantial weather system arrives; lower 60s could be seen along the Ohio River on Tuesday before the potential for convection, gusty winds, and possibly heavy rain as this system passes. Temperature highs will then recalibrate to the more seasonable low to mid-40s.
