Las Vegas is experiencing gusty southwest winds, which will continue through this evening. Wind Advisories remain in effect for the southwestern Great Basin and western Mojave Desert. While some isolated gusts have reached 58 mph, no High Wind Warning has been issued yet as the winds have not reached widespread extremes.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation has been light in the Eastern Sierra and Owens Valley, with some lighter showers in the Spring Mountains and isolated showers in Esmeralda, central Nye, and Lincoln counties. A Winter Storm Warning for the Eastern Sierra is expected to end early as the clouds begin to dissipate.
Calmer weather is expected for Saturday, though temperatures will be cooler. From Sunday to Tuesday, weak troughing will bring cool, uneventful weather, with a slight temperature drop expected on Tuesday due to a Canadian shortwave. Another atmospheric river could impact the West Coast later in the week, with uncertain effects for southern Nevada.
Aviation conditions will continue to be gusty, with Las Vegas Valley terminals experiencing southwesterly winds of 35-40 knots until late evening. Other terminals like DHND and KVGT will see a shift to northerly winds later in the night, while KDAG will continue with west-to-southwest winds. Colorado River Valley terminals will experience southerly gusts, with light showers at KBIH expected to clear by afternoon. Overall, VFR conditions are expected for flying, but pilots should be mindful of gusty winds.
Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather events as per standard procedures.
