Bay Area drivers with a penchant for environmental conservation might swoon over Wisconsin's latest move—Wisco's just rolled out a new specialty license plate that supports forest management and it's not just a mere vanity emblem. Available through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), these plates bear the mark of the Wisconsin County Forests Association, a non-profit tasked with ensuring the state's 2.4 million acres of forests stay lush and functional, whether that's for hikers seeking solace among the trees or industries leaning on wood as a raw resource.
Green-minded motorists with a Wisconsin registration can snag the specialty plate with a pledge of a $25 annual donation, money that'll go directly to advocacy and sustainable forest endeavors in the Cheese State; this donation might even earn givers a break at tax time. The fees for the specialty plate, as the official release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation details, includes the $25 contribution to the organization, and then there's a one-time $15 issuance fee added to the initial cost, plus each year you can jazz up your plate with a personalized spin for another $15.
While Wisconsinites update their auto aesthetics and their commitment to Mother Nature, they'll still have to cover the regular vehicle registration fees, which might also tack on a wheel tax if that's in the cards for their locale. The newest forest-themed plate is one among many—joining a cohort of 61 other specialty plates that can be perused and purchased online, or in the more traditional route, by mail, with the Division of Motor Vehicles promising to deliver your chosen plate straight to your postbox, as reported by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
