Yolo County will honor Cesar Chavez with the "Land and Labor" exhibit at the county's Administration Building. The Board of Supervisors is set to review a resolution on March 25 to recognize Cesar Chavez Day. The exhibit will be open from March 19 to March 26, showcasing the history of agriculture and labor in the area, according to the Yolo County.
The exhibit includes photos, narratives, and artwork, featuring contributions from UC Davis TANA and Yolo County Concilio. Dr. Mary Vixie-Sandy, Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, mentioned Yolo County's history of supporting farmworker rights and honoring Cesar Chavez's work. Supervisor Angel Barajas spoke about the importance of recognizing the county's cultural history and Chavez's impact on justice. The exhibit also presents educational and cultural initiatives that show the contributions of agricultural labor in the county, as reported by the Yolo County.
The exhibit, supported by UC Davis Library Archives and Special Collections and the Yolo County Archives and Records Center, features historical materials about Yolo County's agricultural history. Heather Lanctot from the Yolo County Archives said the event is an opportunity to share local stories. UC Davis TANA will give art prints to early visitors to encourage interest in schools and cities. The exhibit also connects to Cesar Chavez Day on March 31, which celebrates Chavez's work for cultural diversity and labor rights, reflecting his visits to Yolo County in the 1970s and 1980s.
