The bus, identified as 81 Oak Hill and traveling outbound, hit the child near Centre Avenue at Devilliers Street. The girl was then taken to UPMC Children's Hospital, where Triblive reported that nobody on the bus was hurt. Running into the road in front of the bus, initial reports suggest the girl may have been.
Witnesses at the scene described the bus as attempting to go through a green light when the accident occurred. Emergency responders, including police, fire, and EMS crews, were dispatched to the location. WTAE confirmed the child's hospitalization, and by approximately 4:30 p.m., the scene had been cleared.
Adam Brandolph, a spokesman for Pittsburgh Regional Transit, stated in a statement detailed by Triblive, "The bus driver will be tested for both drugs and alcohol, as per transit agency policy." The driver collaborates with investigators to understand the circumstances leading to the unfortunate event. The Port Authority Police mainly handle the investigation.
