A tragic collision on the Hardy Toll Road early Saturday morning has left one person dead after a 26-year-old woman driving the wrong way collided with another vehicle, Harris County Pct. 4 officials have reported. The suspect, a Hispanic female, is now facing intoxication manslaughter charges, as the 45-year-old man who was hit succumbed to his injuries following the accident, according to the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 on their facebook page.

A crash on the toll road caused the closure of the main lanes while authorities responded to the scene and redirected traffic to the Sam Houston Tollway. Officials have emphasized the dangers of impaired driving, which is often a factor in wrong-way crashes. Despite efforts such as improved signage and detection systems, Harris County has seen a high number of these incidents over the past decade. Constable Herman announced that enhanced enforcement and public education are being used to address the problem, as reported by KHOU 11.

KHOU 11's analysis of Texas Department of Transportation records reveals a serious issue in Harris County. Over the past 10 years, there have been 2,891 wrong-way crashes, including 87 fatal accidents resulting in 111 deaths. The North Freeway is identified as the most dangerous area, with 10 fatal wrong-way crashes and 13 deaths. Drugs or alcohol were involved in all these fatalities. To prevent future accidents, the Houston Police recommend staying alert on the road, driving in the right lane at night to avoid impaired drivers, and slowing down and pulling over if a wrong-way driver is spotted. "Your job is to save yourself and not try to stop the wrong way driver," the police said.
