On Saturday, a portion of the 60 Freeway near Pomona was closed for several hours as authorities investigated a suspicious package that was reported around 9:40 a.m. The closure affected both westbound and eastbound lanes, causing significant traffic delays. According to ABC7, the shutdown extended from the junction of the 71 Freeway and 60 Freeway with traffic being diverted off at Phillips Ranch Road.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was on the scene and managed the situation, issuing a Sigalert, as noted in their statement "CHP OFFICERS ARE ON SCENE AND WORKING TO CLEAR THE ROADWAY," which was reported by KTLA. The lanes were ultimately reopened that afternoon just before 5:00 p.m., as confirmed by the NBC Los Angeles.

A bomb squad was called in to examine the device that was found in the split of the freeway, as aerial footage obtained from NewsChopper 4, and shown by NBC Los Angeles, depicted their truck and several law enforcement officials at the scene. A tactical officer and robot were also visible near the area of the investigation.

During the closure, videos on The Citizen App showed immobile traffic, with some passengers even exiting their vehicles on the freeway, as indicated in the coverage by KTLA. All lanes of the freeway were reopened after authorities deemed the area safe. "All lanes on SR-60 in Pomona, including the SR-71 to WB SR-60, are now open. The scene has been cleared, and normal traffic flow has resumed," the CHP posted, which was shared by CBS News Los Angeles
