The Aurora Public Library has taken a step into the future by launching its Strategic and Facilities Master Plan, aiming to redefine how the community interacts with its resources and spaces. Titled "Radiating Possibilities," the initiative outlines a renewed commitment to nurturing lifelong learning and strengthening the library's role as a central hub for Aurora residents. An important meeting of minds marked the plan's official rollout on Feb. 26, with city leaders, elected officials, and community members congregating to discuss its structure and review the current state of the library.

Despite ranking low in per capita expenditure, with the library standing 104th out of 107 public libraries in Colorado, the Aurora Public Library's usage stats, presented during the meeting, prove its significance. The library was used 3.4 million times in 2024 alone, clocking in 1.1 million item checkouts and 560,000 visits on a modest $8 million annual budget. These numbers reinforce the "Radiating Possibilities" plan's goal to strategically allocate resources to meet the community's and the facility's needs.

Ginger White Brunetti, who heads the city's Library and Cultural Services Department, emphasized the importance of the strategic plan during the stakeholder meeting. "We are at a pivotal moment in the history of Aurora Public Library and this strategic plan, with a strong emphasis on community participation, plays a very important role," Brunetti stated, as per Aurora Public Library News. Noting the intention behind "Radiating Possibilities," Brunetti added, "We are excited to begin this process and look forward to working with residents to create a library that reflects their values and aspirations."

Central to the master planning process is a comprehensive community needs assessment designed to incorporate feedback into the library's strategic direction. In an effort to understand residents' priorities and expectations, the library has issued a survey on EngageAurora.org/LibraryVision, urging both users and non-users to channel their insights.
