
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's (CMPD) Homicide Unit has stepped into action following a tragic incident on Vinton St. in the Metro Division. As reported by CMPD's Newsroom, it all began on February 8, when officers were dispatched to an assault with a deadly weapon on Vinton St., where they found a vehicle that had crashed and a female victim with a gunshot wound. She was quickly taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center by MEDIC.
The victim, later identified as 20-year-old Emily Lizama Alvarez, fought for her life but passed away four days later on February 12. Detectives are now handling the case as a homicide, and their investigation has led to the issuance of a secure custody order for First-Degree Murder against a juvenile suspect. This individual was already detained at the Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center on an unrelated charge and is set to be served with the new charge.
Information on this developing situation comes from CMPD's Public Affairs Office which assures the public that Emily Lizama Alvarez's family has been properly informed about her untimely demise and the subsequent charges leveled against the suspect. The ongoing investigation continues to unfold, with Detective Jones in the lead, according to CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
