The harsh realities of impaired and distracted driving were on full display at Golden Sierra High School, courtesy of the California Highway Patrol's Placerville unit and a cohort of community partners. The elaborate "Every 15 Minutes" program, a two-day event, brought to life the grave consequences of driving under the influence through a staged fatal crash scene witnessed by students.
According to a Facebook post by the California Highway Patrol's Placerville, the demonstration aimed to foster an emotional understanding among the youth about the repercussions that come with such poor decisions. Following the staged collision, students convened for an assembly where they were exposed to personal testimonies on the lasting effects, of DUI-related incidents.
The program involved local organizations like the Garden Valley and Georgetown Fire Departments, El Dorado County Sheriff, Sierra Chaplaincy, and Marshall Hospital. The aim was to create an immersive experience for Golden Sierra High School students. By partnering with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, Chapel of the Pines Mortuary, and the Black Oak Mine School District, the program worked to strengthen its message about DUI dangers, as reported by the California Highway Patrol's Placerville.
California Highway Patrol's Placerville thanked everyone involved for their effort in organizing the important Every 15 Minutes program. The program serves as a reminder that someone dies every 15 minutes in alcohol-related accidents, aiming to address this issue through strong, visual storytelling.
