In College Park, a local barbershop has teamed up with an attorney to offer free haircuts to children in need. The initiative, a symbiotic effort between Makk's Barber Parlor and Geoff Moore, co-founder of Moore Payne Law, is a monthly event meant to boost confidence for young people facing economic hardship.
According to a report by ClickOrlando, 46% of Floridians were living paycheck to paycheck in 2022, underscoring the pressing need for such community support programs. "If you can't put food on the table, you're not going to pay for a haircut," Geoff Moore stated. The families benefiting from this frequently find themselves forced to pick between the essentials and the extras that contribute to a sense of normalcy.
Families have learned about this outreach program through various channels, including social media. Andrea Elmellouki, a foster mother of three who spoke with My News 13, found the event through a Facebook group. She stressed the importance of such support, saying, "We do our best so any kind of support that we can get to help out with things that make them happy is really exciting."
The simple act of a haircut can transform looks and shift perspectives, instilling a sense of pride and belonging in kids who might otherwise feel overlooked.
For those interested in participating in or supporting the Cuts for Kids program, Moore Payne Law is accepting reservations via messages on its Facebook or Instagram pages.
