A District Heights woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a violent incident in Chevy Chase last month. 20-year-old Roniyah Thomas faces charges including attempted murder, first-degree assault, and attempted carjacking in connection to a shooting that took place on February 4, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

Officers were called to the intersection of South Park Avenue and The Hills Plaza around 7:42 p.m. after reports of a shooting came through. They arrived to an adult male with a gunshot wound, who was quickly attended to with a tourniquet before being taken to a hospital, as described on the Montgomery County Department of Police's official website. The victim, who stood outside of his 2023 gray Subaru at the time, was approached by an armed suspect demanding the car keys. When the demand was met with resistance, the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division, Robbery Section carried out an investigation that led to the identification of Roniyah Thomas as a suspect. An arrest warrant was issued on Monday, and Thomas was apprehended at her home in District Heights three days later. She is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
