For those accustomed to the winding ways of Eastern Wake County, the roads are changing. Effective immediately, contractors have initiated a permanent road closure at the intersection of Major Slade Road and the gravel portion of Mial Plantation Road as part of an initiative to enhance roadway safety in the area, as reported by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Concerned drivers should take note that it's the western access to Mial Plantation Road that's been barricaded, rerouting the path forward. As confirmed via NCDOT's press release, the alteration comes in the shape of a realigned curve designed to ease the journey of those behind the wheel. "Crews plan to realign the curve where Major Slade Road becomes Mial Plantation Road to make the curve more gradual for drivers," the department explained.
There remains a silver lining for those who traverse these roads as the closure does not spell the end for all access to Mial Plantation Road. The eastern access from Smithfield Road is not just open but will remain, the sole pathway to the Plantation henceforth.
This isn't a short-term shuffle; construction teams will be on-site, sculpting this new road geometry for months to come. Motorists in the mix must keep an eye out, adapting to the transitional terrain with caution, especially when passing through the construction zones. Caution is the day's word, and safety the ever-present goal with the NCDOT urging, "Drivers should use caution and be mindful of construction crews working on the curve realignment over the coming months." A temporary inconvenience, perhaps, for a long-term benefit of safety and smoother commutes.
