A house fire in Muskegon yesterday morning has resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man, as confirmed by the Muskegon Fire Department. The fire, which occurred at 2228 Crozier Avenue, was reported at around 7:10 a.m. Upon arrival, the firefighters were faced with heavy flames consuming the front of the residence. WOOD TV8 reported that the fire department tackled the flames and entered the house to find the homeowner unresponsive on the hallway floor.
According to statements obtained by WZZM 13, a neighbor who observed the fire alerted the emergency services and told them that he believed the homeowner, known to live alone, was likely still inside, indicated by his truck parked in the driveway. Firefighters found the man and attempted to quickly administer life-saving measures but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the man has not been immediately released. Officials are waiting to notify his next of kin before releasing further details about the victim. The investigation to determine the fire's origin and cause is currently underway by the fire marshal of the Muskegon Fire Department and the Muskegon Police Department. As of now, the cause remains undetermined, with teams from both departments collaborating on the case.
