An inmate who recently escaped from a Los Angeles rehabilitation facility was recaptured Saturday evening, as confirmed by authorities. Delina Phillips, 27, was serving an eight-year sentence when she left the Female Community Reentry Program around 2:40 p.m. Her absence was confirmed by an immediate emergency count conducted by the facility, reported by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
Phillips, described as standing 5 feet 8 inches and weighing approximately 369 pounds with brown eyes and black hair, was last seen in a distinctive outfit of a patterned black and white top adorned with pink and yellow triangular shapes, black leggings, and purple Crocs shoes, KTLA reports. Submitted to the facility from Imperial County, she was initially sentenced for the crime of attempted second-degree murder, augmented by an enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury.
Issuing a call to the public for assistance, CDCR had shared Phillips' details widely and advised anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact law enforcement directly or call 911. Special Agent Daniel Tristan was also listed as a direct contact for tips at 909-376-8204. Despite the escape, CDCR maintains that a significant majority, 99 percent, of escapees are caught — a track record bespeaking their commitment to oversight and public safety.
Phillips surrendered to CDCR officials in Pacoima on the same night, without the occurrence of an incident, at around 9:50 p.m., ushering her prompt rehousing within a prison institution. As for the legal proceedings that follow an escape, her case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of further charges tied to her escape, much like the officers looking for Phillips immediately joined the search upon being notified.
