Jose Guadalupe Deciga-Lopez, a Mexican national who has been deported five times, was arrested in New Braunfels on Monday during a routine vehicle stop. Court documents state that he is facing charges related to alleged illegal re-entry into the United States. His deportation history dates back to 2014, with the most recent in 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Deciga-Lopez faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence based on legal guidelines. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas announced the case, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division leading the investigation. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Marie Cordova is prosecuting.
Deciga-Lopez is presumed innocent until proven guilty. As the U.S. Attorney's Office stated, "A criminal complaint is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
