An argument that spiraled into violence has led to an attempted murder charge for a Fontana man. San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reported that on Monday, Randy Castillo, 39, fired shots at another man after an altercation in Fontana.
A dispute over money owed took a dangerous turn when Castillo produced a gun and attempted to fatally shoot the victim at close range. Deputy Saragih from the Fontana Sheriff's Station was among the deputies responding to multiple calls reporting shots fired on the 14800 block of Merrill Avenue around 9:38 p.m.
Home video surveillance provided by a resident enabled Saragih to obtain descriptions of the two involved vehicles: a compact white box type and a lowered sedan. The vehicles were seen chasing each other through the streets following the incident, which prompted a broader alert to surrounding law enforcement.
Both suspects, Castillo and Christina Brown, 38, of Hesperia, were apprehended after California Highway Patrol officers noticed the same vehicles engaged in what appeared to be a road rage incident. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and Saragih, who had joined the CHP Units, located the firearm suspected to have been used by Castillo. According to the sheriff's department statement, Castillo was arrested on charges including attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and Brown for being an accessory after the fact.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have circulated photos of the vehicles to identify potential road rage victims. No reports of additional injuries related to this incident have surfaced.
