
The buzzing energy of civic pride took a concrete form as Fort Worth celebrated its community champions during the 2024 Mayor’s Neighborhood Awards. With local dignitaries and community leaders in attendance, the ceremony lauded several neighborhood associations, individual residents, and organizations that have stood out in their efforts to bolster beautification, crime prevention, wellness, and various other initiatives within the city bounds.
According to a report from the City of Fort Worth, the Lake Como Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) garnered the esteemed title of Neighborhood of the Year for District 6, followed closely by Glen Crest Civic League in District 8 and West Meadowbrook straddling Districts 8 and 11. The city's recognition of these groups underlines a collective endeavor to foster community engagement and elevate the neighbourhood identity. Additional categories, such as Fort Worth Pride and Spirit of Fort Worth, saw Rosemont NA and joint winners West Meadowbrook NA and Vista West HOA securing top honors, respectively.
Moving beyond neighborhood entities, individual residents and officials were spotlighted for their service. Marissa Rodriguez of the Highland Hills NA was named Code Officer of the Year, showcasing her dedication to maintaining standards and improving the cityscape. In a tie for Neighborhood Police Officer of the Year, Percy Holland and Ralph Salazar were applauded for their contributions to neighborhood safety in Districts 6 and 2, respectively. Meanwhile, the Distinguished Veteran recognition was bestowed upon the Airpower Foundation as the organization winner and Christine Willesen as the individual winner, illustrating Fort Worth's veteran community's depth of duty and service.
Community engagement was further exemplified through the Glencrest Civic League NA, which led in the Civic Engagement & Collaboration category. The award underlines the importance of collective participation and resident interactions to generate positive change and powerful dialogs within neighborhoods. The Garden of Eden NA championed health and Wellness from District 11, who emerged victorious for their initiatives to nurture residents' corporeal and mental well-being.
Neighbor of the Year' was awarded to Janet Williamson of the Westcliff & Westcliff West NA in District 3, celebrating her invaluable contributions and community spirit.
