On Tuesday, the Baltimore Police Department responded to an unarmed carjacking incident in South Baltimore. According to FOX45, a group of young males, four teenagers, were implicated in the theft of a vehicle from a 76-year-old woman on the 3200 block of Washington Boulevard.
Investigations quickly progressed, allowing for the successful location of the stolen car nearly a day later. With aid from the Regional Auto Theft Taskforce, Foxtrot (Aviation), and the Baltimore County Aviation Unit, officers were able to track the vehicle down to Interstate 95 near the Canton Avenue exit. "They’re probably trying to make it home. Again, this is that carjacking crew from that block," captured an officer via police dispatch, suggesting a familiarity with the group of juveniles. This detail emerged from a FOX45 report. An informant close to the case indicated the teens might have been associated with an uptick in local carjackings and robberies.
The four suspects, three aged 15 and one aged 16, were apprehended and face charges related to the crime. In a post detailing the arrests, the Baltimore Police noted that three teens were sent to the Juvenile Justice Center, and the fourth, being a 15-year-old, was charged as an adult and taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility. According to Baltimore Police, this was not the first encounter with law enforcement for one of the 15-year-olds, as he had been arrested previously for carjacking.
