The City of Frisco is calling on its residents to voice their opinions on a significant new development. According to official notice, Frisco City Council has scheduled a public hearing for April 7, regarding the potential use of sales and use tax proceeds by the Frisco Economic Development Corporation. The focus of the hearing will be on the funding for projects related to the proposed Center for the Arts, as per the City of Frisco.
The public hearing will be conducted as part of the City Council meeting, set to happen at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center. This gives community members the chance to understand the costs, impact, and the specifics of the projects poised within the upcoming May 3 election. The hearing is in line with the requirements of Section 504.153 of the Texas Local Government Code, which calls for transparency and public involvement in discussions about the allocation of sales tax revenues for development purposes.
At the heart of this initiative is the proposal to direct funds, accumulated through the city's sales and use tax, to support the establishment of a new Center for the Arts. The Frisco Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors has identified this venue as a necessary addition to the city's cultural landscape, capable of housing a range of artistic pursuits under one roof.
This opportunity for public engagement enables residents to assess the proposed projects that will be up for vote on May 3. As dictated by Section 505.152 of the Texas Local Government Code, such projects may include acquiring land, erecting buildings, investing in equipment, and making other improvements relevant to the development of the Center for the Arts. Notes regarding the hearing were published on March 7th, 2025, consistent with the state's requirements for providing advance public notice of such proceedings.
